Smoothies!

I love smoothies! You can have them as your breakfast or as a mid day snack or as an after dinner dessert!  And if you (or your kids) are not veggie lovers, it can be a good way to hide them!  I'm always trying to come up with new smoothie recipes.   So here are just a few that I love to make!

Note: I'm all about using what you have! I use almond milk and sometimes coconut milk, but you can certainly use whatever milk you have in the fridge. Also, if you don't have or you don't like the taste of agave nectar, use honey or sweetener.

Directions for all smoothies: Put ingredients in Magic Bullet (or blender) and blend well!!

Chocolate Banana Oatmeal
perfect for breakfast on the go!
1 banana
1/3 cup old fashioned (or quick) oats
1 tsp cocoa powder
1 packet of sweetener (I use Truvia)
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1-2 ice cubes

Cucumber Melon

1/2 cup cucumber (6-8 slices)
1 cup cantalope
1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
2 tsp agave nectar
1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
1-2 ice cubes
*optional 1/2-1 packet sweetener

***You can replace the cantalope with strawberries for another delicious combo!

* If you think it sounds strange to add cucumber to a smoothie, TRY it!  It is very refreshing!

tastes like fall!
Sweet Potato

1 banana
1/3 cup sweet potato (cooked and chilled, I used leftover baked sweet potato)
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1 packet sweetener
1-2 ice cubes

a sweet treat!
Honey Banana

1 banana
1 TB honey
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1-2 ice cubes

No Bake Cookie

dessert for breakfast!

1/2 cup old fashion (or quick) oats
2 heaping tsp. cocoa powder
2 heaping tsp. peanut butter
2 packets sweetener
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1-2 ice cubes

As you can see, I use a lot of bananas, so I tend to over buy them, and then they all ripen at the same time, and this could be a problem.  But, did you know that you can put overripe bananas in the freezer?  If you bake banana bread, I'm sure you did!  But you can also use those frozen bananas in your smoothies!! So, don't ever throw your bananas away.  If they've gotten to the point of brownness that you won't eat them plain, just stick them in the freezer and save them for your next smoothie....or banana bread!
